PhD student in mathematical modelling of Malaria: an exciting opportunity to improve models of malaria dynamics and estimates of severe disease
The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH), within the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, develops and applies epidemiological, statistical and mathematical methods to advance innovation, validation, and application in the field of public health. Within the Disease Modelling Unit of the EPH we are looking for a:
PhD student in Mathematical Modelling of Malaria (100%)
We are seeking a PhD student for an exciting opportunity in malaria modelling. The successful candidate will join a globally leading team of scientists with established expertise in mathematical and statistical modelling of the dynamics of malaria, in the context of international collaborations.
This position is linked to a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation project of Professor Melissa Penny for core model development.
Your responsibilities include:
The PhD position will involve developing mathematical and statistical models of malaria dynamics and burden of severe disease, and the use of models to assess interventions for control and elimination of malaria.
Required qualifications for the PhD position are
• a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Ecology or other quantitative relevant field;
• Strong mathematical and statistical modeling skills,
• Strong quantitative, analytical, and programming skills (preferably in at least one of R, C++, or Python);
