PhD in Geographic Transmission of Antimicrobial Resistance

The Health Policy and Geography Group at the Institute for Environmental Decisions is offering a PhD Position on the Geographic Transmission of Antimicrobial Resistance.
Project background

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) - the ability of microbes to evolve and resist treatment - is rising globally. In September 2016, the United Nations General Assembly declared AMR “the most urgent global risk”, and mandated its member states to establish national action plans against AMR, including improvements to epidemiological surveillance systems. This position is part of a project funded by the European Commission to improve surveillance on AMR in animals and humans.

This project focus on the risk of circulation of AMR inside the EU, and its importation from third countries. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in the field of disease dynamics. This is a fixed term position for 4 years with an anticipated start date of January 1st, 2020. The position is based at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. The successful candidate will join the health geography and policy group led by Thom Van Boeckel.
