Detailed Project Description: The Disease Ecology Lab in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Galway is seeking a PhD student for a lab-based project exploring the evolutionary drivers of sex-biased parasitism and its influence on ecological dynamics using a well-known model host Daphnia magna and its bacterial parasite Pasteuria ramosa. The position will be fully funded for four years (fee waiver plus a €25000 tax exempt stipend per annum) by a College of Science and Engineering Scholarship. Suitable candidates should have at least a B.Sc. in Biology or a related field, proficiency in a range of laboratory techniques, strong attention to detail, communication and organisational skills and an ability to work independently as well as with others.
