The Ndeffo Lab (base at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University ) has a position available for a Ph.D. in Epidemiology with a focus on infectious disease modeling and analysis. The ideal student will have a strong interest in mathematical modeling and infectious disease epidemiology.

Our research focuses on tackling important and applied problems in public/global health and infectious disease epidemiology using multidisciplinary modeling tools. Research interests span a wide range of infectious diseases. There is therefore considerable flexibility regarding specific research projects for the student to explore personal research interests related to infectious disease epidemiology. Potential modeling projects may focus on 1) understanding local heterogeneity in the spread and burden of mosquito-borne diseases (e.g. Dengue, Zika) and evaluating the effectiveness of innovative control measures such as genetics-based strategies or behavioral control strategies; 2) the role of socio-cultural factors on the spread and persistence of infectious diseases; 3) elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases.

The candidate should have a good quantitative background, prior experience with mathematical or computational modeling of infectious disease epidemics, good computer programming skills (e.g., MatLab, Mathematica, R, or Python), and great communication skills (verbal and written).

Additional requirements for prospective students include:

• Having an MSc/MPH degree (or about to complete)

• Meet the formal admission requirements for Texas A&M University and the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
