Modelling to estimate the impact and cost-effectiveness of an intervention to increase HIV testing among MSM in China
We are seeking a mathematical modeller to work on a project estimating the impact and cost-effectiveness of an intervention designed to promote HIV testing on HIV transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. This is the final piece in an NIH-funded study investigating the feasibility and impact of a crowdsourced intervention to increase HIV testing among MSM in China.
In order to receive care and treatment for HIV, it is necessary to first undergo HIV testing. However, HIV testing rates are low among MSM in China. In the larger study of which this project is a part, crowdsourcing was used to design and develop a campaign to promote HIV testing among MSM in China, and the campaign was evaluated in eight cities in a randomized controlled trial (https://doi.org/10.1186/s13063-017-2183-1). The primary outcome for the trial was the proportion of MSM who reported testing for HIV in the past 3 months. In this project, information collected in the trial and in other studies of MSM in China will be used to estimate the likely impact of the intervention upon new HIV infections and HIV disease burden among MSM and their female partners, and to estimate the cost-effectiveness of the intervention.
The post-holder will join the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis (formerly the MRC Centre for Outbreak Analysis and Modelling (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/mrc-outbreaks), and will benefit from the extensive infectious disease modelling expertise of its members and training offered through the centre. They will also work with members of the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) Modelling Centre, and have the opportunity to contribute to HPTN Modelling Centre projects relating to trials of HIV prevention intervention.
The post-holder will also have access to support and training offered by the Postdocs and Fellows Development Centre (http://www.imperial.ac.uk/postdoc-fellows-development-centre/)
