We are a Research Fellows in Infectious Disease Modelling to join our growing team of vaccine epidemiologists, modellers and economists at LSHTM working on issues relevant across high, middle and low-income settings. Recent successes include receiving funding from: the National Institute for Health Research (to start a Health Protection Research Unit in Immunisation with Public Health England), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (to conduct a pneumococcal schedules trial in Vietnam), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (to provide global vaccine model impact estimates), the World Health Organization and the Medical Research Council. Following these successes, the Department is expanding its team to create two new posts for mathematical modelling. This post will be on pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) modelling.

PCV modellers here have frequently provided evidence to the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), WHO’s Strategic Group of Experts on Immunisation (SAGE) and the board of Gavi. Other PCV-related grants are in submission or preparation and the post-holder may have the opportunity to be part of these in the future.

The postholder will based in London, with occasional travel to Vietnam and the Gambia

The successful applicant must have a PhD in mathematical modelling, health economics, statistics, epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in mathematical modelling, preferably on infectious diseases, and have good publication record. Experience working in public health contexts, ideally in low- or middle-income country settings would be an advantage

The posts is available immediately and is funded for 36 months, with the opportunity for renewal subject to further funding. The appointment will be made on LSHTM’s Research Fellow scale Grade 6, £38,533 to £43,759 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting).
