A fully funded DPhil opportunity at the University of Oxford, co-supervised by Professor Koen Pouwels and Dr Anjalika Nande in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, together with colleagues at the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT).

The project will investigate how emerging metagenomic sequencing technologies could best be used for lower respiratory tract and bloodstream infections. It will combine epidemiological and health-economic modelling with behavioural research to identify which patients are most likely to benefit, where testing could add most value in the clinical pathway, and how the technology could ultimately be implemented in clinical practice.

The student will be based at both the University of Oxford and EIT. The project would particularly suit an exceptional candidate with a strong quantitative background and interests spanning health economics, infectious-disease epidemiology, diagnostics and implementation.
