European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control calls for mathematical modelling expertise to inform EU COVID-19 response
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is advertising for mathematical modellers to join a dynamic, friendly and growing methodological group, working on COVID-19 for a period of two years. This is an excellent opportunity to conduct rigorous analysis, informing directly the European Union's response to the novel virus and working with policy makers across 30 European countries.
The jobholders will contribute to the following areas of work:
• Analysing and integrating diverse streams of surveillance data to better understand COVID-19 epidemiology and inform to model parameterisation;
• Predicting COVID-19 incidence, and associated hospitalisation and mortality, in the EU/EEA and UK by routinely re-calibrating and running the ECDC dynamic compartmental model;
• Extending the functionality of the ECDC COVID-19 model(s), as required, to simulate interventions (including vaccination) and assess their potential impact and effectiveness;
• Estimating the burden of COVID-19 in the EU/EEA and UK;
• Launching and facilitating a European COVID-19 Forecasting Hub to produce ensemble forecasts and strengthen the network of infectious disease modellers in the EU/EEA and UK;
• Collaborating with epidemiologists, infectious disease experts, public health professionals and mathematical modellers at the Centre and other European and international public health and research institutions
