Epidemiologist with Monash University’s Epidemiological Modelling Unit supporting the COVID-19 response in South-East Asia.
This role is with the dynamic and growing team of the Epidemiological Modelling Unit at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (SPHPM), Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Our multi-disciplinary team of modellers, software developers and epidemiologists undertakes cutting-edge, policy-relevant epidemiological modelling of infectious diseases transmission and control. The Unit works closely with epidemiologists and public health specialists across SPHPM to support government, NGOs and funding agencies to guide policy for infectious disease control across the Asia-Pacific.
The successful applicant will lead the epidemiological aspects of this major project (“Real-time modelling of the COVID-19 epidemic”), funded by the Australian Medical Research Future Fund and our industry partners (the Victorian Department of Health, the World Health Organization and Amazon Web Services) to a total of AUD >1 million. This project will play a key role in developing computational tools for pandemic preparedness.
The appointee will lead the epidemiological components of our applications, including collating evidence for our model inputs and interpreting the outputs of our simulations. This work will require close interaction with the infectious disease modellers, situational awareness of the context considered, liaison with stakeholders/policy-makers, literature review of relevant inputs and production of manuscripts and reports from the model outputs.
