Epidemiological modelling of hepatitis B virus in South Africa
We are looking for a quantitative scientist with excellent programming skills to undertake epidemiological modelling of hepatitis B virus in South Africa.
- Quantification of the burden of hepatitis B in the general population, and vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, children, and people living with HIV.
- Progress towards the World Health Organization’s hepatitis B elimination targets, brought about by vaccination since 1995.
- Impact and cost-effectiveness analysis of alternative vaccination and test-and-treat strategies.
Join a team of leading interdisciplinary researchers from Stellenbosch University and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in South Africa, and the University of Antwerp in Belgium. This fellowship is funded by a competitive international grant led by Dr Cari van Schalkwyk (SACEMA) and Prof Lander Willem (University of Antwerp).
Minimum requirements:
- Research Masters in Mathematical Statistics, Epidemiology, Econometrics, Data Science, Mathematical Modelling, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Thorough knowledge of English, both oral and written
Recommended skills: - Experience programming in C++ or a similar language
