Epidemiological and evolutionary analysis of the emergence and spatio-temporal patterns of spread of enteroviruses

Applications are invited for 2 posts of Research Assistant or Associate to work on the epidemiology and evolution of enteroviruses, including analysis of surveillance and serological data from several countries (e.g. Malaysia, China and the UK). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to our understanding of the global epidemiology of enteroviruses through access to unique datasets and exciting collaborations with groups around the world. The exact projects the successful candidates will undertake will be determined in discussion with the investigators, considering the candidates’ interests and experience.

You will work in the Vaccine Epidemiology Research Group and have access to excellent peer support from with other members of the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis.

The post would be especially suited to someone with experience in epidemiological or evolutionary analysis of infectious disease data, but we will also consider applications from enthusiastic individuals with appropriate mathematical, statistical or bioinformatics skills.

You will be expected to produce high-quality research, submit publications to peer-reviewed journals, attend and present at conferences, and attend meetings with internal and external collaborators.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To conduct statistical, epidemiological and/or evolutionary analysis of enterovirus surveillance data
• To pursue research on infectious disease epidemiology and inference from data
• To interact with other members of the research group and with our national and international collaborators

Essential Requirements:

You should hold, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in infectious disease epidemiology, evolution or related quantitative discipline with strong mathematical and/or statistical skills and an interest in infectious disease epidemiology.

Further Information:

This role is offered on a full time, fixed term basis for 2 years from the starting date in the first instance. Imperial College is supportive of flexible working. The College is happy to discuss the possibility of implementing such arrangements for this post, with suitably qualified people, subject to operational requirements.
