Disease Ecologist, Rift Valley Fever modeling

EcoHealth Alliance is seeking a disease ecologist with strong quantitative analysis skills to work closely with our science team and international collaborators to conduct analyses and develop models on the ecology and epidemiology of Rift Valley fever virus. This New York-based position is ideal for a recent Ph.D. graduate with a passion for analysis and writing. Responsibilities include assisting with the curation and analyses of field data; drafting manuscripts, grants, and reports; preparing presentations in collaboration with scientists at EcoHealth Alliance, US-based partners, and partners in South Africa. The position is for one year with continuation beyond the first year contingent on performance and funding availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Process, clean, and curate data
Develop models and conduct analyses with multi-disciplinary data to identify factors linked to the epidemiology, ecology, and maintenance of RVFV
Perform literature reviews
Produce data visualizations and participate in writing scientific publications, presentations, and reports
Produce well-documented, reproducible research pipelines to enable reuse of models and data sets
Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team of EcoHealth Alliance scientists and partners and international team
Participate in other projects and tasks as required or assigned by supervisor
Assist Science, Research, and Development teams in investigating and applying for funding
QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. or equivalent experience in infectious disease ecology, epidemiology, or a related field
Strong quantitative, statistical, and computational skills
Experience and knowledge of SIR and spatio-temporal modeling
Experience writing scientific publications collaboratively
Ability to work independently
Demonstrated ability to self-teach new software tools and quantitative methods
Strong knowledge of open source statistical software, including R
Eye for detail
A passion for scientific rigor and meaningful impact
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Fluency in spoken and written English
Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
