Data Management Specialist sought to support the Juniper Modelling Consortium at the University of Bristol.
The role
The Data Management Specialist (DMS) primarily supports the Juniper Modelling Consortium (maths.org/juniper) and associated University of Bristol (UoB) staff with regards to the management of data sources (such as data storage and server solutions) and use of data science tools (such as statistical modelling, machine learning or programming) in their research. The Joint UNIversities Pandemic and Epidemiological Research (JUNIPER) consortium is a £3 million investment from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to develop models and statistical approaches to provide predictions for the COVID-19 pandemic and advise UK government bodies. The JUNIPER consortium brings together leading mathematical and statistical modellers from seven different universities who have been generating predictions, forecasts and insights that feed into a number of government scientific advisory boards.
The role holder will also be part of a team of data scientists and research software engineers working at the Jean Golding Institute for data intensive research, JGI (bristol.ac.uk/golding).
What will you be doing?
The DMS will help the Principal Investigator, Associate Professor Leon Danon, build, manage and facilitate access to a central data repository for the Consortium. This role will work with data management teams at the respective JUNIPER consortium institutions through liaison with the JUNIPER Senior Scientific Programme Manager. They will also support activities of the JGI but in particular focus on support and knowledge exchange. The Data Management Specialist (DMS) will participate in both short term and longer term data science projects that lead to publications and other forms of accessible outputs. The DMS also supports and facilitates research across JUNIPER and the University by connecting applied researchers requiring data science collaborators with members of the JGI and the Alan Turing Institute with the required skills.
