Bioinformatician to analyse Onchocerca volvulus genetic data to differentiate between reinfection and non-cleared infections @LambertonLab @IBAHCM
Bioinformatician to work on the project 'Investigating genetic composition of Onchocerca worms pre‐ and post‐drug treatment: Improving the ability to test macrofilaricidal drug efficacy.'
The post holder will analyse molecular data, run statistical models and publish research on population genetic measures and sib-ship analysis using double digest RADseq or whole genome sequencing data of Onchocerca volvulus and O. ochengi microfilariae and adult worms. This post will help ascertain the potential for, and error margins of, such molecular techniques and statistical models to differentiate between reinfection and non-cleared O. volvulus infected humans. They will also assist in managing and directing the project.
The 18 month project forms part of Work Package 1 (WP1) with the potential for WP2 to be funded for a further two years. This WP1 project is fundamentally analysis, bioinformatics and biostatistics based, but with the potential for laboratory work and field work in countries such as Ghana and Cameroon, project and post holder dependent.
