Asst Prof in Spatial Stats and Epi, to join collaborative team conducting research on epi and control of neglected tropical diseases in Africa.
We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Assistant Professor in Spatial Statistics and Epidemiology. The post-holder will be part of a collaborative team conducting research on the epidemiology and control of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in sub-Saharan Africa. The post-holder will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of appropriate statistical methods to quantify the spatial distribution of NTDs, including helminthic diseases and trachoma, and for evaluating alternative sampling and surveillance strategies. In addition, we would expect the post-holder to work with in-country end users of the research to better understand their technical requirements and programmatic needs. The group works closely with the NTD Modelling Consortium, an international collaboration of infectious disease modellers led by the Oxford Big Data Institute, and outputs of this research will provide direct guidance for implementers of NTD control and elimination programmes.
Applicants should have a PhD-level qualification in statistics, mathematical modelling, statistical epidemiology, quantitative ecology or relevant quantitative subject; post-graduate training in spatial statistical methods; demonstrable experience in developing and implementing complex epidemiological and / or ecological analysis; experience of teaching or delivering professional training at post-graduate level; strong managerial and communication skills.
