Apply mathematical and statistical methodologies as an Infectious Disease Model Developer to study malaria dynamics and estimate global disease burden
This is an exciting opportunity to join Melissa Penny and the Global Disease Modelling team at The Kids Research Institute Australia. As a Mathematical Modeller - Infectious Disease Model Developer, you will apply advanced statistical and mathematical techniques to analyse epidemiological and immunological data, contributing to the development and enhancement of malaria simulation models.
Working in a highly collaborative and internationally connected environment, you will help refine model accuracy through calibration and validation, integrate new data sources, and develop innovative modelling approaches to address evolving global health challenges, with a focus on malaria. You will work closely with researchers, policymakers, and global partners, while contributing to scientific publications and stakeholder reporting.
Your duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Conduct statistical and exploratory data analyses to support model development and validation.
- Develop, refine, and extend mathematical and simulation models of malaria dynamics.
- Integrate new data sources and build tools for data processing, analysis, and visualisation.
- Apply advanced modelling techniques, including statistical, mechanistic, and machine learning approaches.
- Collaborate with internal and international stakeholders, contributing to reports and scientific publications.
Based at our offices in Nedlands, this is a full-time, ongoing position.

- Proficiency in programming (R, Python, or similar) and numerical analysis.
- Experience in data analysis, machine learning, and working with complex datasets.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to contribute to scientific writing and collaborative research.
Desirable: experience in infectious disease modelling (particularly malaria), high performance computing, and version control (e.g. Git).
