An opportunity for 4 Postdoctoral Researchers to work with Professor Deirdre Hollingsworth and the Neglected Tropical Disease Modelling Consortium.

This is an exciting opportunity for up three Postdoctoral Researchers to join the new Big Data Institute, based at the University of Oxford. Working with Professor Deirdre Hollingsworth and the neglected tropical disease (NTD) Modelling Consortium. Research at the BDI is focussed on analysis of biomedical big data, and generation of health knowledge and information. The postholder will be leading research modelling the transmission dynamics of neglected tropical diseases, with a particular focus on trachoma, lymphatic filariasis or schistosomiasis, but also working on cross-disease research, such as diagnostics, sampling, targeting of interventions etc. They will be working within a team of modellers at BDI but also with partners in other national and international institutions. The work will include answering scientific questions regarding the dynamics of transmission, combined with more policy-focussed work responsive to the needs of international stakeholders.

You must hold or be close to completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil in infectious disease modelling, mathematical modelling, statistical modelling or a related field, together with relevant experience. Possess sufficient specialist knowledge in infectious disease modelling to work within established research programmes, as well as managing your own academic research. Previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations along with excellent communication skills is essential. Experience of independent research, modelling neglected tropical diseases and working in collaboration with partners from low and middle income countries would be advantageous.

This full-time position is fixed-term until the 30 June 2021.

Whilst the role is a Grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 6 (£28,660 - £34,189 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate. Part time hours may also be considered.
