POSITION OVERVIEW
Applications are invited for the AIMS-Carnegie AI in Science and its applications Postdoctoral Fellowship commencing in September 2023.

These are two 1 year linked fellowships and both fellowships MUST be applied for. The first fellowship (Year 1) is the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship supported by Schmidt Futures and will be based at Imperial College London. The Imperial based fellowship should be applied for at (….imperial link….). The second Fellowship (Year 2) is the AIMS-Carnegie AI in Science and its Applications Postdoctoral Fellowship is supported by Carnegie Corporation of New York and will be based at Quantum Leap Africa (QLA) at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Kigali Rwanda.

The following information ONLY relates to Year 2 of the Fellowship at Quantum Leap Africa;

The fellowship is flexible and independent, allowing recipients to freely explore while drawing on expert faculty mentors of their choice. This fellowship has the aim of identifying excellent researchers and accelerating them in using AI to advance and disrupt Science or Technology.

The AI in science and its applications covers areas from theoretical foundations to applications in basic science and engineering. Candidates must aim to substantially use AI to advance a particular area of science.

Successful candidates will each benefit from financial support of up to USD30 000 – USD36 000 per annum tax free. Funding is also available for conferences and international scientific events. The fellowship can be renewed based on satisfactory progress.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must hold at least a PhD degree in any appropriate field
An outstanding research record commensurate with their level of experience as demonstrated, for example, through an outstanding thesis, publications, conference presentations, code etc.
The ability to contribute significantly to the research environment at AIMS.
Applicants must use the online application portal to apply and submit the below-supporting documents:

A curriculum vitae,
A letter of motivation and;
electronic copies of three representative publications
These supporting documents should be submitted as pdf files named using the following format: “AIMS-Carnegie-postdoc–first and last name of applicant-document type”.

Applicants should provide complete and accurate contact information (email address, title, names) of two referees who will provide confidential letters of support on their behalf. We will request these letters of support directly from the referees for shortlisted candidates.

Applicants MUST apply for both positions (Imperial College and Quantum Leap Africa) to be considered.
