RKI is the statutory public health institute of Germany. The ‘Vaccination/VPD Modelling team’ in the Immunisation Unit at RKI supports the evidence-based decision making of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO), with a real-world impact on public health and people’s lives in Germany.

For a new project investigating how to improve the lives and care in nursing homes in Germany through antiviral influenza post-exposure prophylaxis, we are looking for support with the following tasks:

• Develop and calibrate dynamic transmission models of the epidemiology and effect of interventions on (a) outbreaks of influenza in nursing homes and (b) at population level for Germany
• Coordinate, implement and evaluate two rounds of surveys in nursing homes in Germany, collecting data in particular on (social) contact behaviour and health-related quality of life
• Reviewing the literature for input data of the models
• Working closely together with a colleague to support their health economic modelling, including quality assurance of the code
• Present and discuss the project results at national and international conferences, with publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Your profile
• completed degree (Master) in mathematics, (bio)informatics, physics, statistics, engineering, health economics or comparable quantitative subject
• PhD of advantage
• Knowledge and experience in the creation and parameter identification of dynamic models, e.g. based on (stochastic) differential equations, time series models, adaptive controls through comprehensive and documented experience
• Knowledge and experience in statistics and statistical programming (e.g. R/C++/Python/Matlab)
• Basic knowledge of German language (equivalent to CEFR level up to B1; and willingness to improve your German during the course of the employment)
