3 RAs or postdocs in health economic modelling for 6-10 months on African sleeping sickness. Specific publications are tied to these positions.

The Mathematics Institute at Warwick is looking to appoint up to three Research Associates (RAs) or Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRAs) for an exciting new opportunity to develop a career in infectious disease health economics within one of the UK’s leading groups for between 6-10 months (finishing on or before 30th April 2025).

This opportunity will allow post-holders to experience the economics of decision analyses for infectious diseases as part of the HAT Modelling and Economic Predictions for Policy (HAT MEPP) group, multidisciplinary research group working with key partners to develop regional, policy-ready models and results that support decision-makers in the national sleeping sickness control programmes.

The roles will focus on the evaluation of future strategies, with a specific focus on health economics (decision-making and resource allocation), for the vector-borne infection, gambiense human African trypanosomiasis (gHAT or sleeping sickness) targeted for elimination of transmission by 2030. Whilst the posts are short, it is expected that the successful candidates will be assigned a specific project component that will result in a first- or second-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal which also has an impact on HAT strategy.

The roles provide an exciting opportunity to develop skills in science communication, the complex analysis of datasets, adapting health economic models, programming and optimisation problems, and cost-effectiveness analyses (CEAs) within a supportive and friendly environment. It is expected that the CEAs will be conducted in R, however the team also use Matlab and C++ for transmission modelling aspects of this project.
