2y postdoc exploring spread of antimicrobial resistance via patient transfer networks.

An exciting opportunity to work on a collaborative project exploring regionally coordinated strategies to prevent the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through the Victorian healthcare system. This project will link Victorian patient admission datasets with existing and prospectively collected genomic microbiologic data through applying network analysis and modelling methods to characterise and simulate intra- and inter-hospital 'patient movement networks'. As part of the research team you will help to describe the role of shared patient populations as 'bridges' between hospitals via which AMR can spread and explore how a detailed understanding of these referral networks can translate to effective and efficient policy decisions.

This position is part of a collaborative project funded by an NHMRC Project Grant. The research team includes investigators with expertise in infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance (Dr Andrew Stewardson, Professor Anton Peleg), local and internationally based modellers (Dr Tjibbe Donker, Prof Ben Cooper, Dr Nic Geard), and other key stakeholders including A/Prof Andrew Wilson (Chief Medical Officer, Victoria) and Prof Ben Howden (Director, Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory).

The position will be located both at the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct and have an honorary research position at Safer Care Victoria (50 Lonsdale St, Melbourne). There may be opportunities to travel for in-person work with Dr Tjibbe Donker (Freiburg, Germany) and/or Professor Ben Cooper (Bangkok, Thailand).

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
