2-yr postdoc position on an NSF EEID funded US-UK collaborative project, looking at rodent-borne virus risk in heterogeneous landscapes
Are you interested in movement ecology, infectious disease, and developing useful tools for public health and environmental planning? We are hiring a 2-yr postdoc position at Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute to join an NSF funded US-UK collaborative project looking at how land use changes (e.g. deforestation, small-holder farming) are influencing the dynamics of rodent-borne viruses. Parters include University of Glasgow, Uganda Ministry of Health, Royal Veterinary College, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and the International Livestock Research Institute.
Key responsibilities will include:
🐀 field work in Uganda to understand rodent movement, and patterns of rodent-human contact;
🧬 collaboration with other teams members studying the virome of these rodents;
💻 developing methods for incorporating data on human-rodent contact into models of rodent-borne disease risk, and translating this into useful information for Ugandan stakeholders.
