Scientific staff member/Research associate in Epidemiological modelling of vaccine-preventable infectious diseases (all genders)

RKI is the statutory public health institute of Germany. The Vaccination Modelling team in the Immunization Unit conducts epidemiological modelling, healthcare services research, health economic evaluations, primary data collections and analyses.

For the new project ‘HELoCO’ funded by the Federal Ministry of Health to investigate the effectiveness and efficiency of vaccination against (i) Long COVID/post-COVID condition (PCC) and (ii) Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) for individuals and society in Germany through an integrated micro- and macroeconomic modelling framework, we are looking for support with the following tasks:

  • Develop and fit (calibrate) dynamic transmission models of the epidemiology and burden of disease of COVID-19 and Long COVID/PCC as well as for investigating the effects of interventions (vaccines, non-pharmaceutical interventions) in Germany
  • Applying and fitting (calibrating) the epidemiological modelling to (pandemic) influenza and ME/CFS, and integrating the epidemiological modelling with other project results on health economics
  • Conduct searches to generate the input data of the models
  • Working closely together with colleagues to support the development and quality assurance of other analyses within the project
  • Present and discuss the project results at national and international conferences, and publishing them in scientific journals

Your profile:

  • completed degree (Master or equivalent) in applied mathematics, (bio-)informatics, physics, statistics, engineering, health economics or a comparable quantitative subject
  • relevant doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) is of advantage
  • Skills and experience in the development of dynamic transmission models, e.g. based on differential equations, individual-based models etc.
  • Skills and experience in the parameter identification and fitting/calibration of dynamic models, e.g. based on adaptive rules, Bayesian inference (MCMC) etc.
