Research Software Engineer on Ebola vaccine modelling

Applications are invited for a Research Software Engineer to join the Centre for the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The post-holder will work on translating cutting-edge research in infectious disease modelling into accessible software or web applications that can be used by public health institutions for designing Ebola vaccination trials.

The post holder will need demonstrable experience in at least one of R or C/C++, familiarity with version control (e.g. git) and standard development practice tools and an ability to write modular, maintainable and testable code. The post holder will need a MSc degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering either awarded or imminent or equivalent training or equivalent experience in a related quantitative discipline for Research Assistant or a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree in a scientific field including a substantial component of computational methods or computational biology, or equivalent experience in a related quantitative discipline for Research Fellow. The position can be appointed at the academic Research Fellow or Research Assistant level determined by the applicant’s previous experience. The post is fixed-term until 30 November 2021 and is available from 1 January 2021. This is a full-time role, part-time and flexible working arrangements will be considered and can be discussed at interview.

The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 5 (Research Assistant) scale in the range £34,854 - £40,011 or Grade 6 (Research Fellow) scale in the range £40,011-£45,437 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
