Research fellow position to model benefits and risks of introducing RSV vaccination in LMICs, to inform WHO guidance.

Applications are invited for an infectious disease modeler to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Dynamics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

The successful candidate will develop epidemiological models to understand the risks and benefits of introducing maternal respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination in low- and middle-income countries. A new maternal RSV vaccine has been developed that has the potential to save the lives of infants from dying from RSV, but which may be potentially linked to a higher risk of preterm birth. This work will inform guidance from WHO about whether to use the vaccine.

The post-holder will work with Prof Mark Jit and will join a team of modellers, epidemiologists and economists at LSHTM and elsewhere (including in Kenya and South Africa) with a long track record of analysing the impact vaccines against RSV and diseases. They will be part of the Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases (CMMID) is a multidisciplinary grouping of more than 150 epidemiologists, mathematicians, economists, statisticians and clinicians from across LSHTM.

The post-holder will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic and relevant experience in mathematical modelling, health economics, epidemiology, statistics or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Further particulars are included in the job description.
