Research Assistant Position in Infectious Disease Modeling

Overview
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University, the largest academic group of its kind in Canada, is seeking to recruit a research assistant to work on dynamics modeling of HIV transmission. With funding from the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, this research project aims to model the impacts and optimize HIV prevention packages among men who have sex with men.

Description
The successful applicant, working under the supervision of Dr. Mathieu Maheu-Giroux, will develop a detailed mathematical model of HIV transmission, parameterize it using relevant data sources, and carefully calibrate it to epidemiological and programmatic data. Additional responsibilities include preparations of abstracts, presentations, technical documents, and manuscripts. The post holder will work closely with a team of collaborators at the University of Toronto, UQAM, Université Laval, and Imperial College London.

Qualifications and experience
Suitable applicants should have a master or doctoral (or equivalent) degree in infectious disease epidemiology, biostatistics, applied mathematics, computer science, or in an equivalent quantitative discipline. Previous research experience in a related area, demonstrated ability to publish in scientific journals, and well-developed programming skills (with proficiency in R, Matlab, Python, or C++) are required. Knowledge of Bayesian statistics and health economics is a plus.

Applications
This exciting opportunity is available immediately on a full-time (35 hours per week) basis for a fixed one-year term with possibility of renewal for a second year. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits are provided.

To apply for this position, please send a cover letter and your CV to Dr. Mathieu Maheu-Giroux. The position will remain open until filled. We thank all applicants. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
